Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Depending on local conditions and existing concentrations, disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

As key study concerning acute toxicity to microorganisms a short-term respiration inhibition test performed by BASF (2001) according to OECD guideline 209 was identified, using domestic activated sludge as inoculum. In the static test an EC20 of 2.5 mg/L and an EC50 > 1000 mg/L after 30 minutes of exposure were derived.

Based on the EC20 value, it can be concluded that disturbances in the biodegradation process of activated sludge are possible depending on local conditions and existing concentrations.
