Description of key information

The test substance is non flammable. Furthermore, the substance is neither pyrophoric nor flammable upon contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10. The test item has a burning number of BZ 1 according to VDI 2263, sheet 1.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Due to the test results the test item does not have to be classified as "flammable solid", class 4.1 of the Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods / Manual of Tests and Criteria and according to chapter 2.7 of the GHS (CLP) regulations.

The test item is not a highly flammable solid in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.10.

Experience from the handling and use of the substance allows to exclude pyrophoric properties (according to CLP Regulation, Annex 1, Part 2, section 2.10.4.1).

According to the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria, fourth revised edition, United Nations 2008, Appendix 6 Screening Prodecures, a substance is considered as not forming flammable gases in contact with water, if one or more of the following properties applies: (a) The chemical structure of the substance does not contain metals of metalloids; or  (b) Experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured in water or washed with water; or (c) The substance is known to be soluble in water to form a stable mixture. Since at least property (b) applies to the substance, the substance is considered not to form flammable gases in contact with water.
