Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: VDI 2263 sheet 1
Deviations:
not specified
Principles of method if other than guideline:
This test is designed to determine the relative auto ignition temperature of a product in a hot air-stream (100 – 120 l/h). The auto ignition of the product tested occurs by reaction with the oxygen in the air and/or by exothermic decomposition.
8 cm3 (5.8 g) of the test item were placed in a cylindrical fine wire mesh container and in a Grewer oven at 22 °C; the temperature/time curve relating to conditions in the centre of the sample and the reference item (graphite powder) is recorded while the temperature of the oven is increased to 433 °C at a rate of 1.8 °C/min, while a hot air stream is blown through them. The temperatures of the samples are recorded.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
No self-ignition temperature was observed up to 433 °C according to VDI-Richtlinie 2263 (Grewer-Oven).
The test item has not to be classified as “self-heating substance” in the sense of the classification criteria as laid down in Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation).
The test item has not to be classified as “self-heating substance”, class 4.2, in the sense of the classification criteria as laid down in the UN Transport Regulations.
Executive summary:

The test item showsanendothermic effect in the temperature range of about 170 – 230 °C(melting). No exothermic effect up to the maximum temperature of the reference item (433 °C) was observed. After the measurement the wire mesh container was empty.
