Pretražite alternative
Nakon što ste odredili koje su vam tvari prioritet i neke od njih odabrali za zamjenu, potražite potencijalne alternative. Ključno je da odredite opseg projekta zamjene s obzirom na to da je riječ o koraku u kojem određujete sljedeće:
(a) razinu djelovanja do koje namjeravate uključiti dionike
(b) ciljeve i načela na kojima se temelji projekt
(c) kriterije za odlučivanje o tome koju alternativu odabrati.
Određivanje opsega projekta zamjene uključuje i utvrđivanje granica procjene. To vam pomaže u usmjeravanju resursa i izradi plana procjene alternativa, uključujući plan o tome koje učinke na zdravlje, putove izlaganja, segmente životnog ciklusa i značajke tehničke funkcionalnosti/učinkovitosti treba uzeti u obzir.
Prvi je korak pažljivo razmotriti pitanje je li tehnička funkcionalnost koju pruža zabrinjavajuća tvar zaista potrebna i/ili postoje drugi načini da se postigne isti cilj.
