Endpoint:
adult fish: sub(lethal) effects
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study with acceptable restrictions
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 204 (Fish, Prolonged Toxicity Test: 14-day Study)
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
28 days duration
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The draft OECD guideline proposal for "fish - juvenile growth test - 28 days" (1992) was also considered. Accordingly, the growth parameters body weight and length were included.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Analytical monitoring:
no
Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
As the test substance is practically insoluble in water, a saturated solution prepared with 10 mg/L was tested compared to a control. No concentration control analysis was conducted as no appropriate analytical method could be established.
Test organisms (species):
Oncorhynchus mykiss (previous name: Salmo gairdneri)
Details on test organisms:

Dissolved oxygen:
8 - 10 mg/L which is about 80 - 100% of saturation
Nominal and measured concentrations:
Test concentration (nominal): 10 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
- Test vessel: Test aquarium (60 X 35 X 40 cm) with an overflow consist of glass
- Fill volume: 60 Liter
- Dilution water: Drinking water, purified over active carbon
Total hardness: 2.3 - 2.4 mmol/L
pH: 7.9 - 8.1
- Aeration: continuously aerated with oil-free air
- Photoperiod: 16 hours light/8 hours darkness
- Flow rate: 10 L/hour
Duration:
28 d
Dose descriptor:
NOEC
Effect conc.:
>= 10 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Duration:
28 d
Dose descriptor:
LC50
Effect conc.:
> 10 mg/L
Nominal / measured:
nominal
Conc. based on:
test mat.
Basis for effect:
mortality
Details on results:
No mortality or symptoms of intoxication were observed in the only concentration tested. Compared with the control group, there was no impairment of the mean body weight and length in the only test concentration.
