Reference
Endpoint:
toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: Directive 79/831/EEC, Annex V, C
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
The concentration control analysis was conducted by extraction of the test substance with Freon (1,1,2-trifluorotrichloroethane) from the water samples.
Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
The test was performed with an aqueous extract (eluate) prepared with 100 mg/L. The test substance was reduced to small pieces by means of a mortar, an appropriate amount weighed out and suspended in test medium by stirring for 17 hours. Then, the suspension was filtered and diluted with test medium to the desired test concentrations between 0.31 and 80 mg/L (nominal).

Test organisms (species):
Desmodesmus subspicatus (previous name: Scenedesmus subspicatus)
Details on test organisms:
The test strain of Scenedesmus subspicatus CHODAT SAG 86.81 is obtained at regular intervais from SAG (Collection of algal cultures in Göttingen) and is kept in liquid culture in the "Labor für Okotoxikologie" at BASF AG Ludwigshafen.
Test type:
static
Water media type:
freshwater
Limit test:
no
Total exposure duration:
72 h
Test temperature:
23 +/- 2 °C
Nominal and measured concentrations:
Test concentrations (nominal): 0.31, 0.63, 1.25, 2.50, 5.00, 10.00, 20.00, 40.00, 80.00 mg/L
Details on test conditions:
- Test vessels: Erlenmeyer flasks (nominal volume 250ml) plugged with gas permeable siliconesponge caps
- Test volume: 100 ml
- Inoculation density: 10000 cells/ml
- Number of replicates/concentration: 3
