Description of key information
Lanthanum oxide was of low acute toxicity to daphnia magna. No immobilisation was observed up to the solubility limit in a guideline conform study with a water accomodated fraction.

In guideline studies according to OECD 202 or EU method C.2 both lanthanum oxide and the closely related cerium dioxide were of low toxicity to daphnia magna. No toxicity was observed up to the solubility limit with a water accomodated fraction. Loading rates of 100 mg/L did not cause any immobilisation after 48 h with both substances.
